Event Report: ROS and Linux Fest Session
Date: 17th September 2024
Venue: Room number 401B
The ROS and Linux Fest session was conducted to introduce participants to the fundamentals of Linux and ROS (Robot Operating System). The session was led by Deepansh Goel and Shlok Sharma, both experts in their respective fields, who delivered engaging talks on these topics. The session began with Deepansh Goel, who provided an introduction to Linux, covering the basics of what Linux is, its various distributions, and a brief overview of Ubuntu. He walked the attendees through some essential terminal commands and explored topics like why Linux is widely used in various domains such as programming, robotics, and system administration. Afterward, Shlok Sharma took over and introduced the participants to the basics of ROS (Robot Operating System). He explained the core concepts such as nodes, publishers, subscribers, and how they work together to enable communication between different parts of a robotic system. Shlok's explanation helped the attendees grasp the foundational concepts that drive the development of autonomous systems and robotics applications. The session concluded with a Linux installation workshop where attendees who wished to install Ubuntu on their personal devices stayed
back for guidance and assistance. Deepansh and Shlok, along with other volunteers, ensured everyone had a smooth installation experience. The session wrapped up with a Q&A segment, where the speakers
