Communication Systems Lab

The general objective of this lab is to make the student understand the basic building blocks of analog communication systems and different analog modulation techniques. The student can further use these conceptual skills in the course of his/her own experimental projects in various fields and advance subjects pertaining to communication field. The Communication Systems lab is specifically designed to allow the students to get acquainted with different hardware kits emphasizing on various analog modulation techniques. Also, it enables them to analyze the transmission and reception of analog systems with the help of Analog and Digital CRO. This further helps the students to understand the basic principles and applications of analog communication circuits in detail. At the end of the course, the students are able to acquire competence associated with the knowledge of different Communication Blocks and basic principles and applications of Analog Communication Systems.

Microprocessor And Microcontroller Lab

This Laboratory gives a clear exposition on the theoretical aspect of the subject through laboratory demonstration and experimental setup on various topics. Experiments are designed to elaborate the functions of various microprocessors (8085, 8086) and 8051 (microcontroller) through software and hardware based experiments. The objective of the laboratory is to enhance the practical knowledge of the students by performing experiments based on logical and arithmetic operations and how to interface memory and other peripherals with processors.

The laboratory is well equipped with 8085 trainer kits and PC’s installed with Microsoft Assembler (MASM) and Keil Software. A comprehensive lab manual is also provided in the lab to aid the students to perform the experiments with ease and proper understanding. The experiments included in the curriculum covers all the concepts of programming studied in theory. Some additional value added experiments are also included in the end.

Embedded System Design Lab

In the Embedded system design lab the focus is on analysis, design and implementation of embedded hardware/software systems. Experiments on Microcontrollers, PIC and ARM controllers are conducted. The lab assignments are first performed in simulation and then the system will be build and debug on real microcontroller. On completion of the lab course the students get a good understanding of embedded systems using modular design and abstraction. They also get hands on experience to build test circuits with switches, LEDs, resistors, LCDs and synchronization of hardware and software input/output switches, lights, sound and sensors.

Signals And Systems Lab

Block No.4, Room No. 423, ECE Dept, MAIT

The purpose of this LAB is to reconcile the declarative (what is) and imperative (how to) points of view on signals and systems. The mathematical treatment that dominates in the associated text is declarative in that it asserts properties of signals and studies the relationships between signals that are implied by systems. This laboratory manual focuses on an imperative style, where signals and systems are constructed procedural.

Through-out this lab we will be using MATLAB for the simulation of signals and systems. MATLAB is a very powerful vector/matrix oriented programming language.

The lab is divided into two distinct sections, in-lab and independent. The purpose of the in-lab section is to introduce concepts needed for later parts of the lab. Each in-lab section is designed to be completed during a scheduled lab time with an instructor present to clear up any confusing or unclear concepts. The in-lab section is completed by obtaining the signature of an instructor on a verification sheet.

The independent section begins where the in-lab section leaves off. It can be completed within a scheduled lab period, or may be completed independently. Students should write a brief summary of their solutions to the lab exercise. The summary should clearly answer each question posed in the independent section of the lab. The lab writeup should be kept simple. It will typically include the names of the members of the group (if the lab is done by a group), the time of the lab section, the name of the lab, and the date. It should then proceed to give clear answers to each of the questions posed by the lab. MATLAB code should be provided in a fixed-width font and plots should be clearly labeled and referenced in the writeup. Plots may be included directly in the flow of the analysis. If included on a separate page, two to eight plots should be placed on the same page, depending on the nature of the plots. Students can copy MATLAB plots into most word processors using the Copy Figure command in the Edit menu.

The laboratory will focus on the use of MATLAB to explore signals and systems. The text for this lab includes a collection of MATLAB functions specialized for the signal processing taught in signals and system.
